How to read this timeline

It brings together the documented events of Hadi’s life, his political work, the attack on him and his death, and the investigation and court proceedings that have followed. Each entry is short; the pages it links to tell each part in full.

Dates are given at the precision the sources support, by when the event happened rather than when it was reported. What the police or a complainant allege is reported as theirs, not as fact. A date the court has set for the future is not an event: it appears only under where the record stands, and stays there until what happened has been recorded. The record is reviewed as the case develops.

Reported
Published by credible reports, which are cited. Most entries are reported.
Official statement
Stated by a government or authority, and attributed to it.
Disputed
The accounts conflict. Each is set out with its source; none is preferred.
Unverified
Published only with an explanation of what is missing.
Court record
Not used yet: no court document is held. Court entries are reports of what the court did.
  • Exact date known

Conflicts, gaps and omissions

No court documents are held yet
Every police and court entry rests on news reports of the action, chiefly by BSS, the state news agency, The Business Standard and the Dhaka Tribune. None is classed as a court record. That status will be used only when the charge sheet, an order or the court’s cause list has been obtained and checked.
Date of birth
Only reference compilations give 30 June 1993. The entry is published as unverified, with that explanation, until a primary record or a contemporary report is found.
Left out: a master’s degree
A master’s degree in political science appears only in a reference compilation, and is not entered as a dated event.
The founding of Inqilab Moncho
The reports held do not give a founding date. A reference compilation gives August 2024; it is not used until a report or a record of the organisation confirms it.
Evercare Hospital
The /hadi pages say only that he was moved to Evercare between 12 and 15 December. A BSS report of 12 December dates the move to that evening, and the timeline follows it.
Arrest counts
The project’s earlier records gave 14 arrests on 21 December and 11 by 28 December, without sources or a reconciliation. Neither figure is used. The only count given is the one BSS reported with the charge sheet — 11 of the 17 accused in jail and 6 not arrested, as of 12 January 2026 — and it is not a current count.
Hearings not listed
Reports name further dates set for the CID’s report — 19 February, 2 April and 15 July 2026 among them — and a Dhaka Tribune report of 26 February describes a deferral that “Thursday”. What happened on those dates has not been checked against a report of the day, so they are not listed as hearings.
How many times the report has been deferred
Outlets count differently. The Dhaka Tribune called the hearing of 9 February the sixth deferral and that of 26 February the ninth; The Business Standard called 27 September the 20th time the investigating officer had been given more time. The timeline gives The Business Standard’s count as its report, and does not compute one of its own.
Saheda Parveen
The Business Standard reported on 26 July 2026 that she was arrested on 14 December 2025 and gave a confessional statement on 24 December. The project’s earlier, unsourced records gave 19 and 25 December. The reported dates are given, attributed; they have not been checked against a court record.
Names and spellings
Reports spell several names differently: Foysal or Faisal Karim Masud; Abdullah Al Jaber or Al Zaber; Inqilab Moncho or Inqilab Mancha. The timeline uses one spelling for each and quotes titles as published.
Event dates and publication dates
Entries are dated by when the event happened. Where a report appeared later — the murder charge was ordered on 20 December and reported on 21 December — the record details say so, and the source list gives each report’s own date.
